Orissa is the first state in the country have committed to reforming and restructuring the energy sector in the power supply to make more efficient and to meet the investment needs of the sector. The State Electricity is a monolithic organization, looking after generation, power transmission and distribution were unbundled. Grid Corporation of Orissa Limited (GRIDCO) was entrusted with the responsibility of the Transmission and Distribution Systems, where as Orissa Hydro Power Corporation owned and operated stations all hydraulic power generation in the State from April 1 ' 1996.
